S.A.F.E.R. Space is a registered weekly program for youth ages 12–17, hosted by the Sexual Health Centre for Cumberland County at Anchor Youth Space. S.A.F.E.R. stands for Self-Affirming, Advocacy, Friendships, Equity, and Respect. The program is intended primarily for 2SLGBTQIA+ youth, with allies also welcome. It provides an affirming and inclusive place for youth to build friendships, participate in shared activities, access information and resources, and have meaningful conversations about identity and healthy relationships. Each Friday includes a planned group activity or a small selection of activities, followed by time to share a snack together. Activities may include art, cooking, candle making, felting, board games, group games, scavenger hunts, and other collaborative projects.

PARTICIPATION AGREEMENT

SAFER Space should feel welcoming, affirming, and safer for everyone. By joining the program, I agree to:

• Treat others with kindness and respect. Bullying, threats, slurs, put-downs, and personal insults are not okay.



• Respect people’s identities, names, pronouns, backgrounds, beliefs, bodies, abilities, and experiences. I will not make assumptions or judgments about others.



• Respect physical, emotional, social, and sexual boundaries. I will ask first, listen to the answer, and respect when someone says no or changes their mind.



• Give others a chance to speak, participate, and be heard. I understand that people may have different needs, interests, energy levels, and comfort levels.



• Respect privacy. I will not share another person’s story, identity, or personal information outside the group. I will ask before taking or sharing photos, videos, or recordings.



• Use the space, sensory room, activities, furniture, games, food, and supplies respectfully and fairly.



• Remember that my words and actions can affect people in ways I did not intend. If something goes wrong, I will listen, take responsibility, and work with staff to help make things right.



• Tell a facilitator if something feels unsafe, harmful, or uncomfortable, or if I need help, space, or a break.



• Help make SAFER Space a place where people can relax, connect, participate, and be themselves.



• Staff will support me if I make a mistake or have a difficult moment. I understand that serious or repeated safety concerns may mean taking a supported break or ending my participation for that session. This does not automatically mean that I am no longer welcome in the program.
